The Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) implemented a Math Achievement Action Plan for the 2023-2024 school year, with a focus on enhancing mathematics instruction and outcomes across all schools and providing additional support to designated priority schools. The initiative included board-wide professional learning activities for educators and targeted interventions in priority schools through the support of Numeracy Intervention Teachers. These teachers worked with students to close learning gaps using diagnostic assessments, and data showed improvements in student achievement in key areas, including geometry, measurement, and fractions. Student attitudes toward math improved, with more students feeling confident in their math abilities. Student attendance in priority schools also increased. Additionally, educators participated in "Math Hub" sessions to share best practices, which received positive feedback from participants who felt they had an impact on developing effective teaching strategies. Overall, the program was rated highly by school administrators and teachers, leading the DCDSB to explore enhanced support models for the following school year.
