March 31 is National Indigenous Languages Day and an opportunity for Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada to recognize and celebrate Indigenous languages and work together towards language revitalization and collective understanding
DCDSB's Indigenous Education department has compiled resources for further learning about Indigenous languages. These include:
- Fort Eerie Native Friendship Centre is offering online language learning classes for Haudenosaunee languages including Cayuga, Tuscarora, Oneida, Onondaga, Seneca and Mohawk. It also includes Anishinaabemowin (Ojibway language).
- Native Canadian Centre of Toronto is offering children's language programming in Mohawk and Ojibway. Programming including nature talks, art sessions and bedtime stories.
- Métis Nation of Ontario has language resources available on their website.
- Inuktut Tusaalanga has online Inuktitut language classes and resources available on their website.
There are Facebook pages which offer Indigenous language resources and further learning opportunities. These include the following:
