May is Asian Heritage Month

Posted On Monday May 02, 2022
The Durham Catholic District School Board recognizes and embraces Canada’s diverse culture and history. During the month of May, we join with other schools, our community, and organizations across Canada to celebrate the contributions and history of Canadians from over 30 countries that make up the Asian and South Asian diaspora. May was designated as Asian Heritage Month nationally in May of 2002.

Asian Heritage Month gives our schools a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of members of the Asian community. Asian history is not just an event that is remembered in May or only for Asian students. We celebrate Asian Heritage Month because it is Canadian History. Every Canadian, born here or elsewhere, should take pride in learning about and celebrating the past and current achievements, contributions, and cultures of Asian Canadians who have contributed to the building of this nation for centuries.
