During the 2021-2022 school year, the board's Communications Department focused on enhancing internal and external communications by creating stories that highlighted excellence, equity, and engagement through authentic student voice. In February 2022, the Communications Team was awarded a BRAVO award from the Canadian Association of Communicators in Education for the redesign of the board's and schools' websites.
The board hired a Digital Communications Coordinator to facilitate the creation of storytelling series on students and staff. The team implemented a monthly student and staff spotlight and Community of Faith video series to highlight student and staff achievements and faith based initiatives. The Communications team also implemented a new internal newsletter called the Weekly Buzz featuring articles, information and events that staff need to know.
The department streamlined communications for maximum effectiveness by working with local media to respond to inquiries in a timely manner and pitched stories involving students and staff. The department reviewed communication tools and launched a monthly parent and guardian newsletter called DCDSB News to facilitate the amount of information being distributed to families.
The Communications Department together with members of the Intranet Working Group Committee lead the creation of the board’s new intranet. The new intranet is the hub for all internal communications, information, tools and resources for staff to access.
Together with the Multi-Year Strategic Planning (MYSP) Committee, the Communications Department supported the consultation and engagement process with students, staff, families, and community partners on the board’s Inspire 2026 strategic plan.
