Strategic Priority 3: Teaching and Learning

Goal: To ensure meaningful and varied assessments are used to improve student learning, inform instruction and determine next steps within the de-streamed Grade 9 classroom

Actions to be Taken
  • Identify strengths and needs to better inform our teacher Professional Development and student supports in order to increase success for marginalized students.

  • Capacity building session targeting Grade 10 Math teachers with a focus on the Curriculum Addendum with the goal of streamlining student transition from de-streamed math courses to levelled math courses.

  • Collect course selection data for current Grade 9 students to compare pathway choices pre- and post- implementation of de-streaming.

  • Collection and comparison of success rates between de-streamed classes and previously streamed courses disaggregated by demographic census information.

    Note: supply staff shortage resulted in these inservice sessions having to be cancelled. Instead funds were provided on an application basis for teacher inquiry for after school training and resource acquisition. Over 25 schools accessed these funds and began learning on structured literacy.

Goal: To focus on enhanced STEM Programming

  • Numeracy Resource Teacher deployment to identified schools in support of job-embedded learning and coaching to enhance Math instruction in the Junior Grades.

  • Targeted professional learning in Mathematics.

    Supply teacher shortage prevented release of teachers for regular training at each grade level. Instead, STEM leads at each school were trained on facilitating student learning in coding and provided robotics and digital resources for each school. Time was allocated during the professional activity day on February 17, 2023, to demonstrate the use of robotics to address curriculum expectations in coding.
     
  • Support STEM learning in every school through capacity building for identified lead educators.

Indigenous Education
