We work in partnership with a variety of qualified licensed not-for-profit child care operators and Early Years partners to provide programs that encourage play-based activities to boost a child's desire to explore while learning. The following services may be available at your child's school:

  • Fairy Glen Day Care Centre
  • Kids Campus Child Care
  • P.R.Y.D.E. Learning Centres (Professional Reliable Youngsters Development Enrichment)
  • Region of Durham Child Care Services
  • Waterview Child Care Centre
  • YMCA

Location of Child Care and After School Recreation Programs

We partner with service providers to offer Early Years, child care and before/after school programs in each municipality that we serve.

Fee subsidy

To apply for child care fee subsidy, visit the Regional Municipality of Durham Children's Services Division website.

From the website, click on child care fee assistance and then click on how to apply for child care assistance.  You will be directed to the on-line application.  Once the application is completed and submitted you and your family will be placed on the wait list.  You may also apply by calling the Children's Services Division at 905-666-6238 or toll free at 1-800-387-0642 and ask for the Intake Clerk.

Once your name is added to the wait list you will receive a letter in the mail confirming your wait list date.  The Regional Municipality of Durham manages the wait list with a "first-come, first-served" basis.  When your name reaches the top of the list, you will be contacted to arrange an intake interview to assess eligibility.

Third party provider fees

Third party child care operators' daily fees range from $12.00 to $28.25 per day. Please note that the proposed fees are subject to change.
If a school's Before and After School Program is cancelled, the extended day program will be offered by the  Durham Catholic District School Board or another child care provider in the school. The fees, days and times of operation may change. If the Board chooses to create and operate an extended day program, its fees would be posted. Please note: Program offering is based on enough interest from the community and it's viability.

Needs Assessment Survey

To determine the need or interest in before and after school and/or extended day programs, we offer families a child care needs assessment survey. The survey is now closed. It will be available again in January of each year.

How to complete the survey

  • Information on how to access the survey is sent home with students and available to new families via the Kindergarten registration package.

How are the results used?

  • Survey results assist us in planning future before and after school/extended day programs for children in Kindergarten to Grade 6.
  • In the event that a child care provider is unable to deliver services, another child care operator will be determined or the Board may run the program. In this situation, the fees, days and times of operation may change.

What is the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) Agreement?

The CWELCC agreement is a five-year plan the Ontario government signed with the Government of Canada to lower child care fees for eligible families, improve wages for child care staff, and increase access to quality child care programs.
Please contact the DCDSB early learning and child care partner / provider directly for more information about registration, availability, fee rates, and programming details.
