DCBRT is a centralized, multi-disciplinary team that serves the needs of specific elementary and secondary students with significant behavioural challenges. The team provides intensive consultation about behavioural needs for students who continue to experience difficulties after standard supports have been put into place. The goal of DCBRT is to ensure that all students achieve to their greatest potential in a safe and supportive learning environment.

How to access services of DCBRT:
In collaboration with the school principal, the Family of Schools Coordinator will refer to DCBRT those students who have been deemed to have complex needs. Priority will be given to students who present a safety risk to self and/or others. Parents will be asked to provide written consent to initiate DCBRT’s involvement.
Role of DCBRT:
- to consult and liaise with school team, parents, students, Student Services staff and community agencies, as appropriate;
- to identify student’s strengths and needs in order to assist with positive program planning, self-regulation and behavioural interventions;
- to support the school team in creating a calm, nurturing learning environment through a whole-class approach with a focus on the student’s strengths;
- to plan and assist with implementation of strategies to achieve optimal self-regulation and academic success;
- to build capacity of school staff in the areas of self-regulation and behaviour; and
- to provide resources and support for parent(s)/guardian(s) in reinforcing positive behavior in the home.
