Our students with complex needs require the support of our special educators and services staff in order to succeed in a regular classroom. With suitable support and direct instruction, in the form of early intervention, our students can be successful. Early intervention is important for:

  • the development of social skills and communication skills;
  • support sensory issues and;
  • to provide for academic planning and programming.

An Early Intervention classroom is highly structured with distractions and disruptions kept to a minimum. Data is collected and analyzed on an ongoing basis by highly trained staff.

Every student is unique and no one intervention is effective with every student. A multi-disciplinary approach that combines speech-language pathology, behavioural strategies and accommodations or modifications to individual student programs in a controlled setting is best. All members of our multi-disciplinary team play a key role in the Early Intervention classroom and transition process back to the home school the Early Intervention classroom is a placement for students in Kindergarten.

A student is referred to this program by his/her local school, if the student needs intensive support in social communication, a highly structured program with flexibility and instruction to increase functional communication. Admission to the classroom is dependent upon classroom enrolment, student profile and support of the parent(s) or guardian(s) and the child's school team.
