DCDSB Indigenous Education in partnership with the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) hosted a project for students to experience learning on the land, cooking Indigenous dishes and exploring skilled trades.
Grade 10 students at Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School had the opportunity to work with Indigenous Knowledge Holder, Beedahbin Peltier and Indigenous chef, Keri-Ann Peacock. Beedhabin shared land learning of plants and the gift of sustenance the land has to offer within the surrounding area of their school. Meanwhile, Keri-Ann discussed her culinary pathway with the students and led them in cooking an Indigenous recipe. Students cooked a delicious meal of seared Elk steaks with sumac and wild blueberry juniper sauce and a roasted maple squash salad.
Thank you to our Indigenous community partners, Beedahbin Peltier and Keri-Ann Peacock for your support in this project!
