Elementary Indigenous Student Circle Explores the Land with Ben Marshall On Wednesday, May 15, students from the elementary Indigenous Student Circle were invited to go out on the land with Indigenous community partner and ecologist, Ben Marshall. Ben led the students out to the trail and forested area next to the Pope Francis Centre.May 16, 2024

Indigenous Student Day During the week of May 6, Indigenous students in Grades 3-5 were invited to the Pope Francis Centre to participate in an Indigenous Student Day. The Indigenous Education Team and Indigenous community partners including Beedahbin Peltier, Kylie Fox-Peltier, Zika'ige Peltier and Robert Cutting, led the students in groups to learn on the land, make their own beaded bracelets, participate in traditional storytelling and learn more about Indigenous culture.May 16, 2024

Student Walk for Hope Schools across Durham Catholic District School Board will be participating in the Student Walk for Hope in support of the Durham Catholic Children’s Foundation in June 2024. Building Capacity in Structured Literacy: Success from Our After School Book Club As part of ongoing efforts to support the implementation of the new language curriculum with a focus on structured literacy, the Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) held a professional learning initiative focused on foundational literacy skills, evidence-based instructional strategies, and strengthening Tier 1 instruction. Guidance Teacher-Counsellors Explore the Trades The Ministry of Education is funding Experiential Learning for Guidance Teacher-Counsellors in the 2023-2024 school year to provide professional learning opportunities for all Guidance Teacher-Counsellors to develop an enhanced understanding of the skilled trades and apprenticeship pathway, as well as the benefits of the skilled trades as a career. It is the expectation that all guidance staff in schools become knowledgeable about the skilled trades and the apprenticeship pathway so that they can be better informed and positioned to promote this pathway as viable and valuable to all students.May 14, 2024

DCDSB Students Participate in the Forest of Reading Celebration On Monday, May 13, over 600 elementary students across the Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) and Durham District School Board (DDSB) gathered together in-person at the Ontario Tech University and Durham College Wellness Centre for the Durham Forest of Reading Celebration! This is the first time in five years that the students from Grades 2-8 were able to be together as a group for this exciting day. The participating schools started the day off with an author parade, where their favourite authors entered the event space with excitement roaring from all corners of the room.May 14, 2024
