Increase Educator Capacity for effective, culturally-responsive instruction, assessment and evaluation in Grade 9 De-streamed classrooms

Provide professional learning to support cultural shifts in schools to identify and dismantle systemic discrimination and structural inequities with the following:

• Grade 9 math teachers

• Grade 8 teachers

• Principals/Vice-Principals,

• Guidance counsellors/IGTs

• PST teachers

 

Develop resources to support teachers in delivery of de-streamed curriculum

 

Implement early identification and intervention supports for elementary students who may have academic challenges.

 

 

Increase student engagement, achievement and well-being by providing wrap-around supports to address learning gaps before and after Grade 9 and, by strengthening the transition planning processes.

Continue to implement the new elementary math curriculum

Develop an understanding of mathematical modelling to support counting principles, problem solving, and Social Emotional Learning (SEL). 


Support implementation of coding within the strands of Math and across the curriculum.

Implement Zorbits Math Adventure; a suite of digital tools, hands-on resources and teacher supports. Zorbits fosters equity and joy in math through playful, collaborative, and diverse learning environments.

Implement the reporting function of the learning management system Edsby to support educators in utilizing effective assessment and evaluation strategies

Rollout of Edsby Platform for assessment and reporting (focus on effective utilization of observations, conversations and student products to improve student achievement):

• Train the Trainer Sessions (build capacity among staff)

• PD for all educators

• Optional Mini Sessions (e.g., Lunch and Learns; Sharing of Excellence)

• PD for Admin

• PD Day for educators (Gr. 1-8) – focus on pedagogy, assessing in the moment, moving observation/conversation to report cards, Growing Success

Build capacity with principals and educators to embed and enrich Indigenous Education across the curriculum.

Building Capacity

• Intentional integration of learning for Principals and Vice Principals at Director and Family of Schools

• 3 professional learning sessions with 75 Grade 5/6 teachers

• Provide ongoing support to secondary teachers delivering the Contemporary Indigenous

• Going Deeper Inquiry- with 10 teachers

• Build understanding with Guidance teachers about post-secondary supports, pathways and programs for Indigenous students

• Expand D2L resources

• Introduce Kindergarten resources

• Purchase digital resource ON Core - ON-CORE: a Canadian English and French resource designed specifically for Ontario teachers and students to support Indigenous Education

Seek new partnerships with community organizations to enhance experiential learning opportunities with a focus on skilled trades.

• Continue partnership with OPG and Canadian Welding Foundation. Begin student training sessions at United Association Local 401 in Bowmanville. Explore Mentorship program with OPG.

• Partnership with Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium to increase co-op opportunities in the Manufacturing Sector.
