Guidance Teacher-Counsellors Explore the TradesThe Ministry of Education is funding Experiential Learning for Guidance Teacher-Counsellors in the 2023-2024 school year to provide professional learning opportunities for all Guidance Teacher-Counsellors to develop an enhanced understanding of the skilled trades and apprenticeship pathway, as well as the benefits of the skilled trades as a career.
It is the expectation that all guidance staff in schools become knowledgeable about the skilled trades and the apprenticeship pathway so that they can be better informed and positioned to promote this pathway as viable and valuable to all students.

DCDSB Students Participate in the Forest of Reading CelebrationOn Monday, May 13, over 600 elementary students across the Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) and Durham District School Board (DDSB) gathered together in-person at the Ontario Tech University and Durham College Wellness Centre for the Durham Forest of Reading Celebration! This is the first time in five years that the students from Grades 2-8 were able to be together as a group for this exciting day.
The participating schools started the day off with an author parade, where their favourite authors entered the event space with excitement roaring from all corners of the room.

DCDSB and OECTA Durham Elementary Teachers’ Unit Announce Tentative Agreement Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) is pleased to announce that it has reached a tentative settlement for a renewed collective agreement with the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) Durham Elementary Unit. OECTA Durham Elementary represents the board’s permanent elementary teachers.

DCDSB Math Hub Professional Learning SeriesDuring the 2023-2024 school year, priority schools participated in the “Math Hub” professional learning series. These hands-on sessions brought together educators from multiple schools to collaborate on addressing common student misconceptions, exploring new math resources, and sharing best practices.
