  • Grade 8 Girls Learn to Weld (1) Experiential learning was in full effect as 12 girls and their parents, guardians or caregivers learned to weld during the recent Welding Workshop for Grade 8 Girls, funded by the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program. Over three sessions, participants engaged in safety discussions, shop demonstrations and practical exercises as they learned to use basic hand tools, practiced gas and shielded metal arc welding techniques and created a special sculpture.

  • New Grade 7/8 Mental Health Literacy Modules Support Student Mental Health and Well-being This fall, the Ministry of Education has introduced a series of three modules per grade to support the existing mental health literacy expectations within the Grade 7 and 8 Health and Physical Education curriculum. This series of three, 40-minute modules per grade will be delivered by educators to support the existing mental health literacy expectations within Strand D of the Health and Physical Education curriculum.
  • Travel for Credit Program - Summer 2024 Archbishop Anthony Meagher Catholic Continuing Education Centre is offering four exciting Travel for Credit options in July 2024 in partnership with EF Educational Tours.  Students will have a unique opportunity to earn a credit through a combination of classroom and experiential learning.
  • DECA Super 60 Cross Country Championship On October 12, more than 660 students participated in the Durham Elementary Catholic Athletics (DECA) Super 60 Cross Country Championship Meet. Held as the culmination of the Durham Catholic District School Board’s (DCDSB) 2023 Cross-Country season, the Super 60 Championships were open to elementary school runners in Grades 3 to 8, that placed in the top 15 at one of DCDSB’s four Regional Meets.
  • Monsignor John Pereyma Catholic Secondary School Workshops with Indigenous Artists Keith Gattie was at Monsignor John Pereyma Catholic Secondary School on October 18 and 20, 2023. Keith visited Grade 7 classes where he shared his story and pathway as a police officer and artist.
  • Indigenous Education in Action - Student Land Promises Students in Grade 1 and 2 at St. Wilfrid Catholic School read the book "Be a Good Ancestor" and discussed how their actions affect nature and what type of earth they want to leave for the future.
  • Indigenous Student Circle - Métis DJ Visit It was two days filled with bass, mixing and beats as DCDSB's Elementary and Secondary Indigenous Student Circles (ISC) learned DJ skills from Métis disc jockey Ken Lindsay of Big Event Entertainment. Created to give Indigenous students the opportunity to share their voice and culture, while meeting with other students from across the board, the ISC's also help members share and extend their learning.
