Catholic Education Centre Summer Closures:
On January 13, 2026, the Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB), in partnership with the Anti-Black Racism and Black Excellence Advisory Committee hosted the first session of the 2025–2026 Equity Invitational Learning Series.
St. Joseph Catholic School and Monsignor John Pereyma Catholic School in Oshawa have received brook trout eggs from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and have begun a meaningful journey of caring for these new relatives. Students are learning about the trout habitat, life cycles, and the responsibilities involved in supporting their wellbeing.
On January 7-8, 2026, the DCDSB Indigenous Education team facilitated two days of professional learning centred on bringing the Land Acknowledgement to life.
This year, literacy learning in the Junior and Intermediate grades has been strengthened through a collaborative professional learning session developed jointly by Student Services and Academic Services.
During the 2025-2026 school year, elementary French Immersion classrooms are implementing a newly developed French Immersion Early Literacy Diagnostic, Son‑au‑graphe, helping primary teachers form precise, target‑focused groupings and respond more effectively to student needs.
In May 2024, Pope Francis announced that the Jubilee Year of Hope would take place from December 24, 2024, to January 6, 2026. To mark this special Holy Year and its theme, “Pilgrims of Hope,” the DCDSB Faith Department commissioned a beautiful wooden Jubilee Cross, designed and built by staff and students at Archbishop Denis O’Connor C.H.S. The Cross was blessed during a special Mass in April and then began its journey across our Board. From May through December, it visited every DCDSB school, spending a few days in every community.
On December 11th, DCDSB’s secondary mental health leadership group, BWell, came together for both some holiday cheer, and to begin work on this year’s promotional campaigns.
